Privacy-first ads in AI tools: what Idlebid never reads

· 4 min read

Showing an ad while an AI answers sounds like it needs access to your conversation. It does not. Idlebid is built so that the apps cannot read it.

What the apps never do

  • Never read, store or send your prompts.
  • Never read, store or send the AI answers.
  • Never read, store or send your source code or file names.

What they do notice

The browser extension only notices that an answer is in progress on a supported site, so it knows when to show the line. It does not read the text of the page.

Fraud checks without tracking you

Your IP address is not stored. We keep only a one-way, salted fingerprint, used to detect things like many accounts behind one connection. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers.

Your own API keys stay yours

The AI chat inside VS Code and JetBrains uses your own provider key: requests go from your machine straight to the provider, never through Idlebid. All client code is open source under the MIT licence.
